The House of European History organises a debate on the occasion of the publication of “Europe's Postwar Periods - 1989, 1945, 1918: Writing History Backwards”.
Authors of the book will discuss with other historians and experts about the changes that followed 1989, a pivotal year in Europe's history, and how they can be integrated in a longer historical perspective. They will do so through tracing Europe’s path back to two other pivotal moments: 1945 and 1918. Join them to discuss how successive Europes have been constructed in the wake of the key conflicts of the period, the Cold War and two World Wars.
Speakers:
Henry Rousso, Director of Research at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and co-author of the book
Martin Conway, Professor of Contemporary European History, MacLellan-Warburg Fellow and Tutor in History at Balliol College, University of Oxford and co-author of the book
Kiran Klaus Patel - Professor of European and Global History; Jean Monnet Chair; Head of the Department of History - Maastricht University
